We’re spoiled here in Nevada City. The creative culture and mindful nature of our little town are so thick, like a fog – you couldn’t escape if you tried. And why would you? The most alluring trait Nevada City has is its artistic ambiance and the ability to continuously excite visitors and entertain locals, never disappointing.
I love the annual Nevada City First Friday Art Walks on Broad Street. If you’ve never been to an art walk, you’re sorely missing out. It’s hard to put into writing an event that is so sensory. The funky local music, the belly dancers, the out-of-this-world transcendal art displays… Each piece of the First Friday Art Walks captures you and seriously, you become almost addicted to attending.
Happening throughout downtown starting this Friday, May 6th, the First Friday Art Walks take place each month through August. This is where you bring the family to soak up the diverse culture of Nevada City. This is where you go to check out the galleries, the boutiques, the shops, the tasting rooms, and above all the thriving arts community. Bring the family! Visit after work! Participating businesses keep their doors open until 9PM on artwalk evenings and there’s a kids zone for the young’uns to enjoy.
Events like the art walk are why I fall in love with Nevada City over and over again. Where else can you go and find body painting expos like the one this Friday, or fire dancers, or world-renowned musicians as you casually walk down your hometown street on a weekday?
I’m headed out to the First Friday Art Walk this week. I’ll take some photos and share here on this blog on Monday so you can see first-hand just how amazing this event is. For now, here are some photos I was able to gather from last year, courtesy the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce:
