While my heart is in Nevada City, I still love downtown Grass Valley. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out. Downtown Grass Valley is charming. Each shop on Mill and Main Street is unique – from Yuba Blue with their eclectic selection of home decor and clothes, to Lazy Dog Chocolateria with their yummy selection of chocolates and ice cream.
Downtown Grass Valley is truly the hub of the town. On any given day the streets are full of locals and visitors, shopping and wine tasting. However, one of my favorite times in downtown is during an event – especially during the downtown Thursday Night Markets.
Thursday Night Markets typically take place during the summer months. This year the first market will kick-off on June 29th and the event will run every Thursday until the 3rd of August. There’s tons to do in downtown during the markets (too much to really explain in one blog post, but I’ll do my best).
Live music? Check. Local vendors? Check. Food trucks? Check. Fresh, local produce? Check check check. Plus, the businesses on Mill and Main Street tend to stay open a little longer during Thursday Night Markets. It’s like the whole town comes together for one night a week to mix and mingle.
Maybe this description pulled from the Grass Valley Downtown Association’s website says it best:
“This heritage event in the heart of the Gold Country blends the town and country elements and attitudes of Nevada County into a neighborly snapshot of our community. In this day and age when most commerce is geared to the automobile and satellite malls, the Grass Valley Thursday Night Market brings the local and regional community downtown to walk, browse, talk meet your friends and neighbors. All in the shadow of a wonderfully historic and colorful downtown.”
Here’s the event poster with more info on times, band schedule, etc. Give me a call if you’re interested in learning more about upcoming local events. or visit my office at the top of Broad Street in Nevada City.
