Lately, I’ve been writing about how much Nevada City / County offers in terms of the arts, scrumptious food, locally owned boutiques, and entertainment. However, Nevada County is known for another unique attraction: horse country.
A large group of equestrians call the Sierra Foothills home for good reason. The climate and landscape are so suitable for ranches. Not to mention, Nevada County has become well-known for the incredible Draft Horse Classic held at the gorgeous Nevada County Fairgrounds.
If you’ve never been, the Draft Horse Classic is an annual event that pulls in hundreds of locals and tourists. It’s truly a prestigious event – these draft horses are magnificent, majestic creatures and the show is stunning! Our local event has actually become the premier Draft Horse Classic show amongst the western states; four days of performances that include singles, pairs, youth and even Gambler’s Choice (don’t know what these mean? Click here).
Draft horse goers can check out the Harvest Fair while at the fairgrounds. Seriously, there’s too much to take in just in one day. Local vendors, Treat Street is open, clogging, live music… it’s like organizers took a special event, made a hole, and then squished another fantastic event in the middle. Don’t miss seeing the 200lb pumpkin that will be on display. Perfection.
Not to mention, today is the first day of fall! Autumn equinox is here. I really believe that Nevada County never looks better than it does during fall. If you’re heading to the Draft Horse Classic, take your camera. The fairgrounds are sure to be gorgeous this time of year.
