Smartsville
Fourteen miles west of Grass Valley over the Yuba County line is another charming historic town in California’s Gold Country: Smartsville. Owners of real estate in Smartsville have the privilege of being part of a town which is a California Historical Landmark. The first building in town, a hotel built by James Smart, the town’s namesake, is still in existence today, as is the historical Church of Immaculate Conception on Main St. At 669 ft elevation, Smartsville residents enjoy a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, and its rich soil being in a valley of the Sierra Nevada foothills make it a great place for farming (Mooney Flat Farm is found in Smartsville). Real estate in Smartsville situates you in a rural surrounding, while still being only a short drive down HW 20 from both Grass Valley/Nevada City area as well as the Yuba City/Marysville area.
